You can find below the Google Doc links for all previously released chapters, as well as notes regarding upcoming and in-progress posts. If you have any feedback regarding this series, or any questions regarding future posts, drop a comment below, and I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as I can! Thank you for reading, and many thanks to all of my fellow CoS DMs and contributors for all of the wonderful revisions and guides that have been posted to this and other communities. Without you, none of this would be possible. DragnaCarta - this is amazing. Thank you so much for doing this. One question, with regard to the fanes, I see you outlined one for Yester Hill.
Where are you drawing the main shrine in Lake Zarovich from and the other two shrines / fanes? I know in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft they mentioned the three fanes (but I didn't see the Lake shrine). I have my party just now hitting Yester Hill so the fanes will start to become relevant so I'm curious what you have for those other areas you mentioned in that section. Either way, thanks for this - I love what you did!!.
Crazy Good Times, Seriously Good Music. RELOADED is everything you want to hear on a Saturday night. Reloaded is the second studio album by American hip hop recording artist Roc Marciano, released on November 13, 2012, by Decon. Marciano produced most of the album and was assisted by The Alchemist, Ray West, Q-Tip, and The Arch Druids.
This is fantastic! Excellent work! I can see you've incorporated some of the ideas from Power Score in here. I would also take a look at if you haven't already.
My group seems to like the Vampire Bloodknights, in particular. I always have them follow Strahd when he shows up, flanking him, these silent presences in. They almost think the knights are cooler than Strahd himself.I also introduced a plot twist in my own game that you might consider for something optional GMs can do- have Strahd infiltrate the party.
Ismark was the perfect proxy for this in my game. While the group liked Ireena almost immediately, they weren't as into Ismark. During a major encounter, I had Ismark get separated from the rest of the group and then rescued (only now he is Strahd in disguise). He casts nondetection and utilizes a hat of disguise to maintain the illusion. His motivations for doing so are simple: he wants to get closer to Ireena and he is also fascinated by the PCs (seeking a replacement as the leader of Barovia). I plan to have him keep up this disguise as long as he is able (my PCs are level 6 and still haven't figured it out).
There are a lot of tells that can lead to them deciphering the mystery: he doesn't eat much, he never seems tired, he's always the last one into a building, he always disappears when the group encounters Strahd, and Ireena sometimes comments on how he has changed since the journey has begun. I have played him off as kind of a competent smartass with some real personality quirks (like a terrible sense of direction that always gets him lost) and my PCs have been none the wiser, though one of them is starting to get suspicious. When they do discover him, I plan to make it a big reveal moment where Strahd appeals to Ireena and asks her to come with him willingly.
If they still don't figure it out in the next level or so, I'll have Strahd reveal himself by killing an important NPC (Van Richten or Ezmerelda) or stealing one or more of the artifacts from the group. Also, I am replacing the vampiric Escher in Castle Raveloft with vampiric Ismark, which is sure to be a heartbreaking encounter if Ireena is still with the party. It has been a lot of fun for me to run as the GM, and I don't think my players will ever forget it when they finally figure out what has been happening since level 3! More importantly, for me it answers the question of why Strahd simply doesn't destroy the party when they are 3rd level. It's because he is one of them until level 7 or 8, when the PCs might be able to put up enough of a fight that killing them all outright by himself is no longer an option.
It also keeps Ireena squarely in the spotlight as Strahd's primary concern. In my game, he legitimately loves her (though his love is poison) and he enjoys spending time with her and seeing her happy with her friends (the party). Eventually, this won't be enough, and he'll seek to possess her and bend her to his will. Finally, this method allows the PCs to develop a relationship with the big, bad villain.
All of my PCs have had interactions with Ismark that will have them slapping their foreheads when they realize who he really is, and Strahd will know the party's capabilities and will be a much more formidable foe in Castle Ravenloft, as a result. If you'd like me to do a more detailed writeup on this, I'd be happy to share it with you as a doc. Otherwise, just steal all of these ideas! And keep up the good work. I would happily buy a finished PDF of this guide, and any guide you made for other published campaigns!.
